Welcome! The best general advice is easy... check everywhere for rust! ;-) if you dont know the cars then depending on where you are there may be a local member who could run their eye over the car you are considering buying

Beware of hidden rust, i think there is still a club checklist to highlight the most obvious places. Also take it for a decent test drive on a variety of road types, and speeds including some decent bends to properly get a feel for the suspension condition, whether the clutch is going and if it pops out of gear in fifth!
