A weekend of motor sport at Crystal Palace Park (South East London) hosted by the Sevenoaks & District Motor Club including a sprint meeting and classic car show with a club stand for the MK1 Club booked on the Sunday. We have only booked for 5 cars but I'm sure we could have more if we wanted. We already have three Mk1's going and need at least two more please.
This is a spectacular and very busy show with the emphasis on motorsport action.

There are also some videos on you tube from previous years that gives you an idea what the day is like.

Thanks for the You Tube link Alan - very interesting. Glad I've signed up for this one. Car show and some track action displays all together ...and you get up close to the action.
Hope a couple more Mk1's sign up. I'll be bringing some beers...

Well yes, we did manage five cars and we had a wonderful day made special by the perfect weather. Plenty of motorsport action throughout the day together with a large selection of club displays with some fantastic cars. A definite one for next year.

Yes this was a great event. It is held over Saturday and Sunday and camping is available overnight so you could easily make it a weekend event. We didn't book both days as there wasn't much response. In fact we advertised this event for 2011 and had no interest at all. If it wasn't for the fact I asked a few members personally to come with me this year I'm not sure the club would have had a presense there. In the end though we had filled all our spaces just the week before the event and everyone was rewarded with a great atmosphere with lots to do and see or, just relaxing under the gazebo.
Now wouldn't it be great if we could get one or two Mk1's to do the timed sprint next year that we could all support. There must be someone in the club who does sprints or hillclimbs? In fact I enquired what you you need to do to take part and it seems you only need a sprint license which i believe can be obtained by just completing a form. No test required. The car can also be totally standard. Drive it there and back! This year the entry fee was £130 to take part in the sprints. Anyone interested?
Crystal Palace has a good history to it as well. I was going to do a bit of a write up about it but I'm not sure of the correct facts yet. I'll probably do the report for this event with the history included for the magazine in September issue.

Thanks Alan. Yes, it turned out into quite an interesting event with lots going on and lovely location. Kept thinking how it would have been up to 1936 when the Palace was there. My Dad lived down the road and saw the flames that night. As you know it's also just a few minutes from pubs and shops so camping could be quite good with a meal out in the evening. Love to do the circuit ...though my SC doesn't like racing gearchanges (must sort out the synchro!).
