My Super Edition is for sale, after putting perhaps 100m on it in one year (I know, I know - in my defence, I've had to move 4 times this year for various reasons and haven't lived in the same town that the car is garaged...) Anyway, now I've lost the garage and there's no way I'm parking it on the street. :(
I think this car is well known in MR2 circles. Info and pix here: http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=154246
Plus more info here: http://www.mr2.net/f227ovu.html
In true Toyota fashion, it's been totally reliable. Starting (on the booster battery, due to the inevitable flat battery) first turn and never any fuss. It's currently getting a new MOT and fluids service in Suffolk. Be ready in about a week.
From memory, it's got about 64,000m under its wheels, has climate control, electric folding mirrors, mirror-polished alloys, Recaro seats, and a supercharger, of course. Standard SE spec, I think.
Price: £3000 (EDIT lowered 03/12/12)
This price is fair, I think, and reflects the one piece of work that needs doing - the rust patch on the windscreen surround.
Location is now Cambridge.

Aha yes, that was Steve Kingsnorth. Steve's not sure he can log-in to this Forum but asks me today to post this message from him regarding this car for sale...
"I owned an SE sc a few years ago and am interested in buying another one, I know the car very well as I saw it at many shows and that I know the person that imported it".

Meh, I've got no issue with it and it was missing a few original bits anyway. It's is now living in Wales and was at the Ace Cafe earlier this year for the Retro Toyota Meet.

should have told the people who owned it before him then..
had the wrong seats, steering wheel, gear know..
so him changing engine didn't really change much to the car as not much of the original SE left other than the colour!!
good luck with sale it looks good.. hope steve can go for it he was only saying the other day he wants another

Just to update: garage called today to say that it sailed through the MOT. Simply a q of adding a fog lamp indicator somewhere (non-destructively). Embarassingly, I can't recall where it would be on a JDM dash!
Will get a new battery, too, as powering the alarm for all these idle months has killed the existing one.

A rust free one!
The SE is the rarest, it is an SC but with extra options. There are maybe 200 SC in the country and I would be surprised if there was more than a dozen SE. However, do not underestimate an N/A. A good, rust free, well set up N/A is possibly more desirable than a semi decent SC. They actually drive very differently. The SC is more powerful but heavier and I think the N/A is more nimble and easier to drive.
Also depends if you want it utterly original or with modifications
The condition is the desirability factor. In my opinion.

As well as the Super Editon there are are a couple of very obscure special editions, would be surprised if any are on UK roads but you never know!

NA means normally aspirated, which means no forced induction, which means it has neither turbocharger nor supercharger. Same engine, but in the SC/SE models, the supercharger gives the effect of having a bigger engine. You get considerably more torque over the NA, but I've never driven an NA to compare/comment. :)
And I agree with Kate that once you've decided on the engine type, condition is the #1 thing to look out for.

Price now lowered to £3000.
Car is now sitting outside and I want it sold to someone who will tend to the car and get it inside betore the weather gets really nasty.
Only trade that I'm interested in is an upwards PX for an NSX.

i am sure you are dissapointed you have to get rid of it so soon 5705 :( and enjoyed it too while you had it :) :)

It's a great car I'm told by former mainland owners. Do you know situation re. rear wheel arches? Someone said they thought they'd been replaced during it's stay in Northern Ireland ...or are they original and very good?

Mark and Lauren owned the car before it went to NI, they bought it of a guy at Tatton Park for not much money. Have a look at Laurens advert on Imoc when she sold it. I will say no more as the pictures will explain the condition. The SE does have nice seats but the rest of the extras are not that Special IMO, although if you like the seats they were fitted to the Toyota Hilux if you can find a set.

Lauren recently said she thought rear arches had been replaced whilst in NI but there's no comment on that anywhere.
Anyone like to estimate the cost of fixing the rust above the screen, inc. as we know probably a new screen?
Anyone that buys it - I'd like to buy the teardrops for very good money if you prefer some 15" after market alloys with near new Toyo Proxes all round.

i dont remember hearing ronnie getting the rear arches done... but that said the car was meticulously looked after and stored indoors up of the ground with heaters and all.... never left out in the open over here...and always cleaned during the shows too :D :D :D
...better save the windscreen too.... i never realised it but they are colour coded to the model of car.... super charger is gold tint only... and they can NOT be gotten.. one of the lads over here had to get one specially made in sweden or switzerland or that for his one... so make sure who ever does the job gets the window out intact... for the sake of originality for the car :D

They are just polished tear drops, nothing special and they are fairly common. The are not SE specific.

The tinted screens are available from Toyota but you'd need to get them in from Toyota Japan.

as for the alloys..they dont look to be just polished but more of a mirrored chrome finish than simply polished... but i am probably wrong. there is always something new to learn and find out about these great cars of ours :D :D :D :)

hi ben , 2500 pounds for a mk1 are you mad mate  , only joking mate and a fabulous buy and rare as rocking horse poo . i did think of buying it at 2500 pounds as it is a no brainier but sadly i have run out of room for more cars and this time year they don't sell very well to make room . Has it any engine mod eg bigger pulley , charge cooler . i drove a super edition with these mods and head work and it was rapid and not far of turbo conversion acceleration, a very quick car . very happy for you mate , enjoy the le mans trip and its about time you got a proper car again .
see you and the car at JAE this year , good times

20th January 2013, 08:50 PM
Haha, cheers Gary! Yeah it's top dollar for a mk1, but worth it for something so rare I feel. At the very least it shouldn't lose any value, not that I intend to sell it any time soon :)
No engine mods, all it has is a stainless exhaust (and no cat as a result) to help the breathing a bit. Plenty fast enough IMHO, and given that it has done very few miles in the last year I'll be leaving it as for the time being, just to be sure that all is well before I start thinking about pulley kits etc.

hi mate , i was taking the p**s 2500 is not top dollar for a mk1 and for a se its peanuts , good cars in good condition are still sold to cheap and basically ford fiesta money which is shocking and shameful considering a standard mk1 would out preform a escort rs turbo the car of the day in the mk1 years and a super charger would total murder it and look at the cost of these cars now . this car would cost well over 10 grand to import ( a charger not a se ) and seems mad prices haven't gone up , it wont be long though .the poor examples needing work are getting very thin on the ground .
