Hello all,

My name is Martin, I have recently bought my first MR2, a Mk1b. I have been a fan of the Mk1 for over 25 years after first sitting in one at a motor show in the mid eighties as a spotty teenager.

I got it from a friend on Facebook but had to do a 14 hour trip to Dorset to get it, from the record of previous MOT's it seems it has spent the majority of it's life in the south west and appears to have been well looked after until someone decided to give it respray, painting straight over the original decals.

It has some rot on the drivers side rear arch and both rear corners will need attention but all else seems solid, although I've not dug to far down yet.

At the moment it is sat under a cover as I am on with restoring a 1988 Mini, hopefully I'll be able to get started on the MR2 in the next month or so.

Hello and welcome! Thought you might have an s-max from your user name. We nearly bought one as our family car but ended up in a BMW instead.

Hi and welcome. On first glances it seems you've bought a tidy one, dodgey resprays not withstanding! If long drives in the country are your thing, look out for the famous north west region club runs. First one is in March. Looking forward to hearing about the mini project too.

Thanks for the welcomes on here and the other thread I started by mistake. I'm in Doncaster, Gilles, so not to far away from yourself.

Decided to get an insurance quote as the MR2 has got MOT till the end of May, It came back as £95 fully comp, well happy with that so now it's Taxed, tested and insured and I'm out and about in it. No point it just sat there when I can be enjoying it!! :)
