Hi guys, just picked up my mk1 which I plan to restore to former glory. Have owned a few mr2's before but never a mk1 so hopefully will be getting some technical help from the experienced members here. The first things I need are a manual (Haynes type not a cd) and 2 front wings. Can anybody point me in the right direction please? Oh im based in the Midlands in Wolverhampton just incase any one local has a couple of wings.

Welcome to the forum.
Haynes manuals come up on ebay occasionally, they are based on the US version though. Most information can be found on line and is usually better than the Haynes manual, I have a Haynes manual and have never used it.
New wings from Toyota were around the £100 mark, but I don't know if they have any more. Fibreglass wings are available but need a bit more work to fit. Second hand wings do come up but they are usually in need of work as well.

Cheers for that coverco, I have seen the fibreglass ones but I must admit coming from a kitcar background I would rather go for the originals if they are still available. I will give Toyota a bell and find out. I've found a manual on e-bay so I will probably bid on that as I have an old school mechanic friend that prefers to thumb through the pages lol.

Welcome to Mk1 ownership. i have a haynes but to be honest i get the most useful advice fromt he web, this foruma nd a few others are gold mines of infomation but there is alot out there.

Have found Haynes useful on the odd occasion though so definitely worth getting although edpending on what year you have and what you will be working on then it may or may not cover what you need.

Not too bad at all really, seen second hand ones go for 60 so probably well worth it.

Toyota do stock things like that still which sounds odd considering they don't produce throttle cables any more which is a right bugger!

The fibreglass wings were originally £39 but then they put the prices up to £85 each due to the recession and their costs going up - or they just caught on and screwed us all!

Always have the part numbers handy when calling Toyota, as the parts people I've dealt with don't have a scoobie doo!

hi , i have 3 sets of throttle cables all like new , i didn't know you couldn't get them anymore . i think they were around 90 pounds new .

After getting it up in the air I now need both sills (outer) Toyota do not stock them any ideas?

not had to do it too mine but loads of examples of options to replace them across the various forums, Mk1Dal is always a good bet for advice on things like this though.

hi , i have used 4 types of sills , the mk3 2 door escort sill fit but need a extra 10 degrees of bending put in along the length and they aren't a full sill has you have to weld on top of the first sill edge . the sills advertized on the club site are a good fit but the sill edge where its meets the door is to sharp a bend and doesn't look right . little bird's sills and panels on ebay are very good , they still need work to fit but its very minimal. i made my own sills so a good sheet metal shop could copy the profile . what model is the car and has it gone rusty behind the triangle body kit .

Cheers Gary, all I know is its a 1988 twin cam mk1 1.6 T Bar. My mechanic is pretty handy at panel bashing and is up for making his own sills but I would rather cut down the messing time and get a pair that go straight in with minimal fuss. The triangle is pretty shoddy to but I have a load of spare steel from a previous car project so should be able to knock these out. Is this enough info mate?

Sorry mis read the last bit, the triangle I'm talking about is underneath at the sill end not behind the kit mate

arrrrr a t bar ,right it gets a little more tricky . you have 3 sills on a t bar ,the inner , middle and outer . the outer is spot welded to the middle sill on top of the sill where the plastic trim is located and have to be remove carefully so no damage is made to the middle sill also you need to remove the welds from the inner sill to the outer and the welds from the outer sill to the floor pan . if you are going to replace the whole sill ( if its gone around the body kit fixings holes i would just cut the rot out and patch up with flush fitting repairs ) otherwise a full sill is needed and it wont be a 2 mins job but is not hard , the main thing to watch out for is where the sills meets the door edge ,on all the sills i have brought the bottom flange which fixes to the floor pan flange has been to long .if you try and make it flush with the original flange on the floor pan it pushes it up and the door will catch the sill .

Fantastic mate, thanks for the links, I think due to price I will go with the Escort sills. My mate is a cracking mechanic/metal worker so a little messing around won't be a problem, he had already told me we have 3 sills and thinks by looking the other 2 will be workable. I did find some 1mm thick galv sills from a guy on the net that says they are an exact replica of a Toyota sill only longer but they come out at £92.00 delivered for a pair! The Escort ones are approx £10 each. I'm going to take it for a per MOT check just to be sure we haven't missed anything else before we start work though.
