Hi Guys and Girls,
I am new to the MR2 club, just joined. I have a MR2 MK1 86 non T-Bar and in the process of getting it read to track.
This is my first MR2 i have owned so it's all very very new to me so i apologise in advance if I ask any stupid questions!
So the first stupid question I have to ask is: Will the front and rear Anti Roll Bars to fit a MR2 MK1 87 fit my MK1 86 non tbar?
Thanks
Rich

Hi and welcome Rich. I believe the anti roll bars were the same throughout the production run of the AW11 but I would not be 100% sure. I know people who track their cars often use MK2 ARB's or other aftermarket ones with a thicker circumference. Do a quick search and see what comes up :-)

Hi and Welcome
Stupid questions are very welcome, as it's stupid not asking questions :)
Mine is almost finished now so myself and Matt would be up for a meet :)
The mk2 turbo 18mm rear bar fits with using the front ARB brackets from the mk1 (hard to find in good nick, expensive to buy from Toyota, I had mine made).

I purchased some mk3/mk4 fiesta drop links to replace my old ones as they were knackered anyway. I don't think the standard drop links will fit the mk2 roll bar.

If yours is a late mk1a, I can't remember if the mk1a's had a rear bar, so if yours hasn't, you'll have to retro fit the rear bar but drilling and tapping some holes.

Hi All,
Thanks for the welcomes and answers.
I am in Tipotree Essex, so not to far away from most of you. Sadly the car will not be a road going car and is going to be used for tracking only. Always up for meets etc and to get a better feel of anything MR2.
Thanks,
Rich

If you need some coilovers I am selling some D2's, they are designed for track use :-)

Agreed with Tommy...the D2s would be perfect if you're having it as a track day car!!

I'm gathering parts to do this on my SC, do you have a link to the droplinks you bought and what length were they? You didn't have to adjust them did you?

Hi there Tsporter,
There's articles of various people doing this mod in the Technical sections.
If you join up as a member, you'll gain access to them! :) It's only £10 per year and easy to do via the link below:

I've since replaced these as they were pretty crap and they knocked a fair bit.
The are PITA to fit at the top of the strut leg due to the allen key bit you have to hold, is facing the chassis, so it's very fiddly and frustrating. I've bought adjustables but even they are a bit cack.
You can hold the drop link on a cut out designed for a 17mm spanner, but you can split the rubber boot whilst doing this as well.

I do will tell you this though, the mk1 bar is 12mm and this bar is 18mm.
There is a calculation I found in my Mr2 Mk1 mechanical guide my mate bought me for my birthday last year - i cant remember it, but will try and dig it out for you - i calculated that the bar is around 5 times (rounded up) stiffer than the standard mk1 arb.
This will not only give you a lot more rigidity, considering yours has none at the moment at the back anyway, but it gives it more chance of kicking out sporadically as i've found out recently.
It'll also put more strain on other suspension components.
Just a warning - but its good having NO BODYROLL lol

Cheers for the replies lads.
Were the fiesta droplinks the correct size though or did you have to adjust them to fit? I just wanna get cheap ones to see what difference it makes first, then I may invest in ones from twosrus.
I've also seen these ones but I don't know how they could fit both mk1a and mk1b as they should be different lengths, approx 30mm difference. And the seller hasn't got back to me. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOYOTA-MR2-mk1-rear-anti-roll-bar-drop-link-rods-x-2-/360248163325?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3AMR+2&hash=item53e076bbfd
I previously tracked my mk2, and I don't think I could get a more snap happy, bite you in the arse at a moments notice, car. I had the FEAR driving that on the road, it was a hoot on the track though!

I think they were 150mm long mate and no adjustment of droplinks - just had to move the ARB to suit the stud of the droplink.

Sounds dead on! You hardly have a link of where you bought them? I'm gone crossed eyed looking for them, the only fiesta ones I can find seem to be 238mm, which is far too long.

I'll have a look for them mate.
