The red mk1a is a bit expensive, looks good though - good find! You must spend a long time looking for mk1s lol

Yes it does look nice!
Yes...too much time! I have a look on the same few sites once or twice a day...just in case. Been doing that for about 18 months and still no luck! Can you beleive it!

In my opinion mk1a@s are in better condition than the b, mainly due to the lack of side skirts. How many mk1a's do you see with solid sills or sills that at some point haven't been replaced, not many. Whereas there are lots of rust free mk1a's and they look nicer

i think the 1a's look better but the interior isn't as nice, smaller brakes, smaller clutch... swings and roundabouts I guess. Dont they have a higher redline and a lower t-vis open point due to different ecu?
main thing that puts me off mk1a are interior not as nice in my oppinion

Wait til you see my 1a interior on sunday... it'll change your mind ;)
Yeah 1a's have a slightly lower tvis open point, different ECU and different injectors meaning they are a bit more aggressive than a 1b. Not sure if the redline is different, aswell as the brakes & clutch they also have different gearbox, suspension & induction setup.

Ooh. What are you doing to the interior Kris? Yours is already one of the best interiors I have seen.
IanC
17th September 2013, 10:34 PM
yea now that sounds more like it, extra aggression is always welcome.
If I found a solid 1a first it would not have stopped me buying it, but i already had a decent double din stereo I want to fit, so mk1b made more sense lol.
Will be the longest trip for mine on Sunday, I hope it gets there!

i do have a soft spot for the A , the interior has a raw retro feel and seats are better than the b and a lot more sporty , the A is also faster and lighter than the B but i do prefer the look of the B on the outside it looks finished off with the kit .

Im toying with the idea of recovering the dash & central console, but for now its staying as is... as you say its one of the best already & I dont want to over-do it.
he did seem off when i asked him if he thought it would get me 200 miles home , i will know friday  .
Good luck mate

Looks like a mk1a with factory skirts which they started doing. Paul Sims has a D reg T bar with mk1b bumpers and full spoilers must be one of the first as the interior is full mk1b as well.

That there is a nice looking car for the money, yea it needs a couple of fixes but it would cost £££ to restore one to a similar standard.
On a side note, do Toyota still sell rear quarters?

I don't think Toyota still do rear quarters. I used two on my car but got them from ebay.

Another red B reg mk1a for sale.
Looks nice condition but let down by the repairer spraying over the black bumpers and side mouldings.
To me, this type of workmanship inicates a lack of knowledge of the cars and possibly a lack of care in the repair process. Just my opinion...I have no information to back that theory up in this case as I have not seen the car.
If you are local and looking, it may be worth a look.

Possibly down to preference too as think most un informed buyers will not like big black bumpers (I would have kept them stock)
Either way apart from that (easily re painted) and the gash gearknob/shift boot I think it looks a tidy example.

Just done a bit research, whether they do or dont, they wanted around £500 each side and that was a couple of years ago. Ouch.
Had a google and came up with this site, http://www.alfaparts.net/mr2.html notice they are in Canada but I think I will still enquire to see if they still make and sell these. As $295 each is probably the same cost as all the seperate patch panels available, but think skinning the whole rear arch would be easier/cheaper at body shop.
Will advise what they tell me if anyone is interested!

The rear quarters were £360 a side from Toyota I think, those panels from Canada look OK but they are nowhere near as big as the originals.

True but I would not need the top half (not seen many mr2s with rust in that area)
Its a shame if Toyota don't sell them any more as £360 isn't 'too' bad. Still a lof considering howmmuch these cars sell for, which also sucks considering how cool they are
