Absolutely! I think the leather is often less desireable and makes a car look very tired when worn

you are are joking mate , i know off a few that have been sold for more than 4000 pounds , there was one in buxton classic car auction 4 weeks ago with 63000 on the clock and very clean but nothing special went for 5500 pounds . good cars are still been undersold and to find a good one is getting very hard as many members on here are finding .

Haha well I haven't had the money yet it is true but I am in no rush. It will be at 4 Star Classics soon for £6995 :) The last one sold for over £6000 there and this one is lower mileage and rust free in, some would say, the best colour. I doubt you'll ever see the likes of it again given it was in a Carcoon for 17 years. Go and have a look and judge for yourself ;)

Last year there was a beautiful white Tbar with 3000 original miles for sale! I think it went for about 7k in the end. That was a bargain!

It looks like there's a gulf between absolutely pristine and A1 condition in terms of price. Of course I'm not saying it's a bad thing to make £5k + off a spotless MR2, but you can get a similar one on ebay for 2k.

As what happened to the Starion, dealers and classifieds advertising them for what they believed they were worth - about £4 grand, and they sat on ebay for years - and then private sellers claiming 'these go for £4k'. It really pushes the price up massively.

All I can say is I hope you don't need the money urgently as it will take a long time to sell. The one on Ebay at the moment at £6995 has been on for ages.

I sold my car in just over a month and I know my front and rear wings were in better condition than any car with original 25 year old bodywork, my wings were replaced by original Toyota items within the last few years. All cars will eventually sell but it takes someone with more money than sense to come along for the high priced examples :-)

I paid £250 OTR for mine last year. These overinflated prices are complete rubbish IMO, it's beyond scene tax.

Even if you sell one car a month, you're still going to make 3 - 4 grand variable on something that's not even worth the profit. I bought a Starion for £250 a few years ago and I guess I'm a little bitter that they're all 5,000 now, and I can't have another one!

hi , i disagree with over inflated prices mate to a certain degree . if the car for sale is 100% original eg paint , bodywork and low millage its going to be worth a fortune and 6000 + will be the right money for the car as it will be rare and now sought after . the cost of restoring these cars runs in to thousands of pounds to restore show condition and a arch restoration will cost you 1000 pound minimum and a full body restoration respray with panels 3000 plus thats before you start on the floor pan , scary isn't it there is no cheap mk1 unless you do the work your self and still it costs a lot of money and time to sort and repair a car (i have 25 mk1s) . imo prices need to go up to save the mk1 from extinction , there are 3 times as many mk1 escorts taxed every year than the mr2 mk1's why because there worth saving money wise but they are a shit car compared to the mr2 ( i have have 2 ) . the main thing everyone seems to forget when selling a mk1 they are a classic iconic sports cars that people love and want ( you only have to go on the runs to see how much attention they get ) . the days of cheap mk1s are coming to an end buy them now if you want one .

Gary, couldn't agree more with you. It looks like there are 3 times as many E-Types still on UK roads as MK1s and I daresay a lot are U.S. imports. E-Type prices vary, but some are £100k plus. I am not saying the MK1 is an E-Type substitute, but in the late 80's E-Types in not too good condition were fetching £20-30k,when some models were not much older than MK1s are today. People realised their rarity and value. Yet compared to a car like the MK1, they are a pig to drive and maintain. The MK1 still cuts it today with more modern machinery and yet they are very undervalued compared with older sporting cars of a certain generation.

Well the dealer still hasn't taken her as I'm lazy and haven't put the original door cards and stereo back in. She is like almost new with no rust in the usual places. Really struggling to let go of her but keeping 4 vehicles on the road is too pricey for me. I may still back out and keep her. I had one in 1988 when they were THE car and I had a GTi MK1 but couldn't afford the MR2 as well so sold it. Now my MK1 GTi is worth a few times more and drives like shite in comparison despite only 23K miles. Values are weird.
