Original MK1b stereo and wiring

The 2x white plugs that go in to the back of the headunit have been chopped off by the previous owner. If I had the plugs with a foot of cable attached I could solder them back on.

I would also like the original mk1b stereo if anyone has one or knows where I can get one.

A few years ago I put a Corolla stereo in my MR2 - they have the same connectors:

I bet all Toyotas from mid 80's to late 90's have that same connector.

Sounds good, I believe the MK1b stereo looked like this and had 2 wiring sockets on the back. (Extra plug for the rear speakers (ref: Jimi's wiring diagram))

Yes, that's the correct one, but sometimes the cassette mechanisms fail.

I use a Philips PH-62050 CD/MP3/MD-To-Cassette Adapter in mine which is pretty useful.

Yes that's what I was thinking. Keep it looking original and play all the music from my phone using a cassette adapter.

Iv got a really nice condition one that I took out of a mk1b in the early 90s when I upgraded...been kept indoors since...I'm in ipswich which isn't to far away..lookin for £20 if your interested...Stu

Yes this is the one out of a sc, not sure of the benefit of the bigger unit, maybe built in amp and sound quality, I changed mine for a cd tuner soon after buying...

Seriously though I think it is pure 80s coolness. It even has a button so it can play metal tapes. Who actually owned metal tapes? They sound indestructable.

I bought a mk1a sub for mine as well (the wiring is there on the mk1b). I know people say they sound terrible, but I think mine sounds ace.

As far as I know the wiring is already in place on the 1b. Been mentioned on here before I believe.

I like your stereo wiring diagram Jimi. I have it printed and am using it for reference as I slowly piece together my new audio system. ?

Is the sub wiring under the carpet of the Mk1b? Also are there mounting thread points there for the sub?

The wiring is under the carpet, right next to the bar the seat bolts to, but I have no idea about mounting points, never looked for them.

I guess I will need to make a small incision to the carpet and poke the cable through?

1609 Interestingly there seems to be 3 mounting points(maybe on mk1a only)

Is it under the drivers seat or the passenger(mk1b)? I've read posts that reference both sides.

Always under the driver's it's a bit lame as a sub really & that's coming from am oldie that doesn't like loud music

If I find a modern under-seat sub that fits I may be able to make a fixing board and attach it to the original threaded fixings. Again I expect I will have to make holes in the carpet.
