I went to see this in July as it was very close to me, out of curiosity more than anything else, to see what a reasonably low mileage example was like. It had been advertised by its elderly owner in the local press since April for £4300 and I did think that it wasn't really worth that, but it could be if a little time was spent on it cleaning it up, etc.

Incidentally, the seller was convinced that the 'private plate' was worth a lot of money, but a similar one can be had for less than £300, though I didn't tell him that. I didn't want to upset the guy's feelings so left without making an offer. I'm not a fan of the blue interior, and silver doesn't really do anything for me anyway.

Strangely enough, I recently bumped into an old school friend who I hadn't seen in years, and he is a bit car mad (old Ford's generally), and he saw it more recently whilst passing and offered the guy £2k without the plate, which was obviously rejected.

The company who is now selling it on behalf of the owner seems to be planning to make a few £k just from a quick valet and a padded advert and has based the new price on that white one which was up for sale for a long while last year.

Very optimistic price! A few photos of a car that does not appear to have had a good clean. My car is a white/silver 1b and is nicer with similar mileage.

Yeah, not much of an effort representing the car for an online sales ad, lol.

Attempts like this are getting more and more common for these cars now. Guess they hope someone with no knowledge of the cars, and a bag full of money, will have some sort of insatiable craving for one of them. An '89k miles MKI SC supposedly just sold for $18k (US) over here the other day, but I can't imagine the auction not having been rigged. That is far above what any MKI in similar condition and mileage has gone for here, by a long ways. It will probably pop back up again before long claiming the sale didn't go through, or something like that, and that its someone else's chance to get a great car, lol.

Am I missing something here - apart from having low mileage seems an unexceptional car, in an unpopular colour?
