1988 Mr2 MK1 T-Bar in Super Red II
£1,600 - Bargain!
Reluctantly for sale is '88 T-Bar, it is in a nice almost original condition.
I have owned it for the last 18 months.
It has never broken down on my or even given me any hint of trouble. It is regularly used on the club runs and has done 4 track days last year. I have done 5000 miles in the last 18 months.
The gearbox is nice and smooth and the engine pulls well.
This car is far from perfect but still a good little MK1. It does need work and is at the stage where it will probably need sills and arches in the next few years.
I have been very honest with the description and would prefer it to go to someone within the club who knows what they are buying. This car is a bit too nice for me to thrash around in and enjoy without worrying about damaging it. I have a black 1a as my next project so will still be active in the club.
Specs
Super Red II
T-Bar
127,915 miles
5 Former Keepers
MOT until April 2016
Leather interior.
Good points
4 New tyres ( Toyo Proxies ) on recently refurbished wheels.
New front brakes, EBC Green stuff pads and EBC turbo grooved discs.
New front crash bar.
New Radiator ( Inc coolant )
New exhaust ( cheap non OEM one )
New aerial fitted.
Timing belt done at 119,352 miles.
Service in April 2015 ( about 1000 miles ago )
Looks nice and solid underneath no major rust or rot that I have found. My mechanic was also very impressed with the underside condition.
No advisories on the MOT other than the handbrake being weak.
Both keys present. Most of the service history, hand books, old MOTs, tax discs but it isn't complete.
T-Bar bags, shades, original tool kit, radio, etc...
T-Bar doesn't leak BUT I have never left it out side in the rain for any length of time. I have driven through torrential rain and have not seen it leaking or any evidence of leaking. It probably does leak as they all seem to and I just haven't noticed it...
Bad points.
The paint is quite a few difference shades of red.
The rear of the rear arch on the passenger side is quite crusty. ( The bit under the rear bumper ) You could easily push it through with enough force. It doesn't look bad cosmetically but this will need doing to stop it getting worse.
The drivers 'A' pillar is starting to very slightly bubble at the base. Again this will need looking at before it gets worse
I reversed it into my garage wall last year. Damage was to the passenger side rear arch. There is a thread on here with the damage. I did a quick repair but this has started to bubble and will need doing again. I was going to get this done properly whilst getting the rear of the arches repaired.
There is a welded patch on the rear of the drivers sill. This is the only welding I have found so far. It is rearwards of the 'b' pillar, under the body kit. It is missing the rear mud flaps which suggest that it has had the arches done in the past. I do have the mud flaps included in the sale.
Handbrake doesn't work very well if at all. It had two new rear callipers fitted last year and for some reason they don't have any mechanism for the handbrake adjustment fitted. They where refurbished ones and we think they forgot to do this part. It was adjusted for the MOT buy tightening the cables but this doesn't last that long before it needs doing again. We have followed all of the adjustment guides and can't seem to get them to work correctly. We suspect there isn't the secondary ratchet mechanism fitted. I have the old callipers that will be included with the car but these need refurbishing. There is also a brand new set of rear discs and pads as well included but not fitted.
There are two parking dents on the passengers door. These are quite noticeable in the right light. There is also a rather odd patch of touch up paint on the passenger side engine infill panel, would need repainting to sort it out correctly. The rest of the car is covered in smaller dents and stone chips, the front end being the worst. There is a bit of lacquer pealing around the aerial.
The front splitter has many, many battle scars.
Leather starting to degrade on the steering wheel.
The rear bumper is also dented. This was dented when I purchased the car. It is just the bumper skin / foam that is dented the metal work is undamaged.
The handling of the car is best described as soft. There is nothing wrong with the suspension but it all looks to be original. Doesn't handle as well as my last MK1 but this was lowered, on adjustable dampers and was polybushed.
