View Full Version : Heater pipes WANTED or advice...

As my car is now ready to collect, i checked i over in the garage before driving it away and noticed that the heater pipes have corroded to the point where there is a minor leak. As the car has been in the garage for 11 months now and started regularly to be moved about, this means the coolant level has dropped significantly.

i am not comfortable driving it home unless i do a full flush and bleed of the coolant system.

Does anyone have these pipes spare?
Can they still be bought at Toyota (anyone now the name or part numbers)?
Anyone made alternatives? Would i be ok to use straight pipe and silicone flexi hoses?
How easy are these to change? It looks like the rack may have to come out?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Chrys

That's an excellent diagram Alex but its the wrong end. These pipes are in / under the frunk / bulkhead. Do you have a similar diagram for the front end?

Thanks

My mistake, I was thinking it was the long pipes you were after, but it's worth giving Paul a call, he may have some in his stockpile as he's got a heater matrix up for sale at the mo as well.

Is it worth removing the pipe clips and trying to sand the pipe ends of loose rust where the rubber hoses connect? This may be a short term solution to get the car home.

Did you manage to get this sorted. I think I have the same problem. I hope it's a clip.

Hi. Not yet but i will over the next couple of days.

As the pipes have corroded (even if it is the clips that are loose), i have decided to replace teh whole assembly with silicone hose and 16mm coolant pipe connectors.

I am using these.

It is not a cheap solution but should last. If you use code SALE30 you will get 30% off everything until the end of August ;-)

Going to have a look soon, haven people in the past used copper pipes, maybe it could work.

Liking your idea will look into it.

My car is on the road, but have had some issues - non engine related. 1st needed a knock sensor and found and fitted one. Also front pipe is leaking coolent. So hopefully one sorted I can drive it. Here is a pic when I picked the car up :

I looked at copper pipe but the diameter is either too small.or too big to fit the existing hoses to each end.

Your car looks absolutely stunning mate. Fantastic work!

Thanks Chris, still got lots to do. Change glass with bronze one, eyebrows, trims, stickers...

I might do it your way. As sounds like you done your homework on the pipes. Going to try and have a look tomorrow but I hate working under a car. I have euro parts store near my house so can pick up the parts if its a easy fix. Just hope the nut does not snap off that holds the pipes to the under body of the car.

Hold fire.for a bit mate. Did mine today but lots of tricky issues and a bigger leak after 'fixing' it. Looks like the ends of the main pipes (small diameter ones) are rotten so having to devise a new plan. I really dont want to drop thw fuel tank!!
