View Full Version : TdF in the Dales - Yorkshire Run Sept 25th

A few weeks ago I discovered this route online: http://www.cyclethedales.org.uk/tour-de-france-in-the-dales/the-route
http://www.cyclethedales.org.uk/routes/day-rides/tour-de-france-du-dales/TDF-map-and-description.pdf
It looked promising, but I couldn't tell from looking at the map and directions how long it would take, and if was as fun as it looked. Well, yesterday I drove the route and returned home with a huge grin on my face. If you too would like to have a huge grin on your face please sign up for this run!
The meeting point is the carpark of the Tesco Superstore in Skipton:
Craven St
Skipton
North Yorkshire
BD23 2AG
England
There is a petrol station at this store so you can fuel up as well as buying the spuds for your Sunday roast.
We need to leave Tesco at 10:00am and head north to Grassington for the start of the run. My expectation is that we will be back in Skipton around 4:00pm. We will stop in Reeth (http://www.yorkshire.com/places/yorkshire-dales/reeth) for lunch for an hour. It looked like a good place to park up and there are pubs and cafes there.
Click on the links above for a detailed description of the route and a map.
So, add your name to the thread if you're interested.

Oooh. That's an hour away from my Nan's house (Last of the Summer Wine country) and I haven't visited her in a year (yes I'm an awful Grandson) I could spend the Saturday with her then do this on Sunday. I'll get back to you see if she's around then.

Hi Anthony,
Absolutely gutted, but I can't make this! :(
I've got a stag do up in Newcastle the night before and am flying out to Hungary with work that day. (the early train from Newcastle to Manchester is going to hurt!!)
Have a great day out and I look forward to all the photos etc. :)
Cheers,
Tom

Hi Anthony,
Sorry but I can't make it either as I will be at an RAF Reunion. Thanks for putting the route up though, I might have a go some other time.

You should. I did it by myself using just the written instructions without looking at the map. It's a beautiful route.

For anyone who is interested in going on this run, you can get a taster of part of the route ( albeit in the opposite direction) by watching the BBC 4 documentary 'All Aboard The Country Bus', which was originally shown on Bank Holiday Monday evening but is still available on i player. This is a two hour film shot in real time from cameras on the No 830 Dalesman bus running between Richmond and Ingleton. There is no commentary and no background music. Four million people watched it when it was shown on Monday evening! If you don't want to watch it all, fast forward to 31 minutes in where the bus reaches Reeth and watch the next hour as the bus goes over Buttertubs pass on its way to Hawes. I can't make the run but watching the programme has made me determined to do the run one day.

I set it to record/download last night. I'll watch it on X2 speed to hopefully get the 'real' experience!

Sadly won't be able to make this run, although was up in Hawes and Buttertubs a few weeks ago, a glorious day, and had the pleasure of meeting the EVO magazine team doing a photo shoot for their 'Hyperhatch' feature in the latest EVO mag.
Have a great run some cracking roads to be found away from the main touristy areas.

I think that was a good run. Hard to tell when you're the organiser and lead car.
We had great weather and the slower cars we met were mostly very kind and moved over for us so we were able to keep a decent pace up. http://www.mr2mk1club.com/images/imported/2016/09/d0c3f3c05ae373e11f0b7a674603b2a0-1.jpghttp://www.mr2mk1club.com/images/imported/2016/09/5915685b9e44f7426811c4c60868568d-1.jpghttp://www.mr2mk1club.com/images/imported/2016/09/51ef4081ede08c14a6854b9b4330288d-1.jpghttp://www.mr2mk1club.com/images/imported/2016/09/468e93e00d8a5dc5b78adf3606a1a3aa-1.jpghttp://www.mr2mk1club.com/images/imported/2016/09/86da5ffb217bda3437408e2fa4d8dbec-1.jpghttp://www.mr2mk1club.com/images/imported/2016/09/fbaf5548a1d4d0894adfb8eaa0b75daf-1.jpghttps://vimeo.com/184217367
