I enjoyed my MR2 when I had it and it was a fun car to drive, however at nearly £15000 you need to think about what you can get for the money. I honestly think at this price I would have a Lotus Elise or a Porsche Boxster before a MK1 MR2 if I was in the market for a fun 2 seater.

I think you're right. I suppose a car like this becomes a wise investment rather than something that's fun. At 2-3 grand the mk1 is pretty good value when it comes to fun per £, but above £10k it doesn't really make sense.

I wonder if we'll look back at this post in 10 years when a shabby mk1 is auctioned for £20k and laugh?!

My dad mentioned this to me earlier. I know I paid a solid price for mine but that is much more than double. In some ways it's good for us who own them already, may raise market prices.

Undeniably it looks the best MR2 I've seen. Then again, I've seen a 205 GTi sell for £18000 with 8000 miles on. I'd say that was over the top.

If you are a collector and do not plan on driving it then maybe the price is acceptable. If you plan on driving it then it is just too much money when you can get a far more capable car for the same amount or less. You can get a Toyota GT86 for less than £15000 now, a bit of a no brainer for a driven car?
The blue car that came to Tatton a few years ago with a few thousand miles on it was in new condition and sold for much less than this car, I hope you are right Anthony but I personally just can't see it :(

A GT86 would probably be quicker than an E Type Jag, but people still pay big money for them. The Austin Healey that lives in your village is worth a fortune, but I'm pretty sure my mr2 would beat it on a lap of Silverstone. Your comparison makes absolute sense at the moment as at the moment these are just old cars, but there may come a time when they become proper classics and people will be horrified to see the non-original stuff we've done to them. I used to pass a garage on the way to school in Barnsley that specialised in customising Jag E-Types and XJS's. He did that because it added value to a relatively cheap car. If he's still going I imagine he's now spending his days undoing what he did in the 70's and 80's!

I think it's unlikely, but it's possible that in 10 years we'll be seeing mr2's go for big money. Who would have thought that a Ford Escort or Capri would ever actually go up in value?

And then I'd feel much less about actually driving the thing. At £15k, that car is either going to be bought by someone with silly amount of money who just wants to drive an as-new Mk1, or someone who will never drive it. Which is a shame.

I got rid of my weekend car when I took up motorhoming, good luck with the sale though. I have not driven an Elise but they say they are great fun?
You are probably quite close to me though as I live near Penistone (that is actually a real place as seen on Top Gear lol)
