I think it is supposed to be a celebration of the launch of the MR2 as a marque, not just mk1s specifically, but rather its launch initially and its progression through the years :+:

Yep, its the MR2's 25th birthday, not the MR2 Mk1 - remember the MR2DC cater for all 3 revisions of the MR2.

remember it was launched in 1984 so this year is the true aniversary of the marque.

Wasn't the MR2 unveiled at the Tokyo motorshow in 1983 and went on sale in 1984 in Japan, so it would be 25 years this year or 25 years in the UK next year.

Launched in the uk in 1985 IIRC, so next year for a uk anniversary

Hi folks,
Hope you don't mind us registering so we can answer a couple of questions you have raised in the posts on this thread.
This is indeed a celebration of the MR2 marque rather than one just applying to just the first model of the marque.
It is in August because that is a date that the venue had available, and also one where (fingers crossed) we can hope for good weather.
The reason we chose the Dockyard in Kent is because it is also celebrating it's 25th year as a Tourist attraction and it is a venue that can hold a lot of cars if we get the interest we are hoping for. It has the additional benefit of being close to the ferry ports and "chunnel", if any of the continental clubs would like to join in.
The £8.00 (£5.00 Child) admision charge to the event also gives you access to the Historic Dockyard attractions which would normally be significantly dearer than that, so there are other things to do and see apart from MR2's.
We have now reserved a number of rooms at the Ramada Encore Hotel, which is on the Dockyard itself, at a preferential rate. These rooms are available to anyone attending the event regardless of club if they give a special booking reference, which we will provide to those registering.
If you wish to register, or have any questions, please contact the MR2DC office on 0844 335 0357 (or +44 1934 750077 if calling from outside UK), or e-mail cliveandwendy.elsdon@mr2dc.com for a registration form.
Any more questions about the event please feel free to use the telephone or e-mail details given above to ask them.
Regards,
Clive & Wendy Elsdon

Plans for the event are taking shape with a growing number of MR2's booked in!
A number of MR2 specialist suppliers have confirmed they will be attending. Toyota have also confirmed their support for the event and are providing a Hospitality Unit.
We are planning some competitions with prizes donated by some of the suppliers attending, includinga Hard Top cover AND Stand from UK Custom Covers, we also have on offer a Track Day (in your own car) kindly donated by Javelin Trackdays and some other interesting prizes!
Tickets to the event, which also include access to the Historic Dockyard attractions, are £8.00 per head if you are displaying an MR2!
Don't forget that this is a pre-registration event, please send an e-mail to cliveandwendy.elsdon@mr2dc.com, putting "GM1" in the subject line for a registration form or further details!
We have been told that some people have sent e-mails to us asking for registration forms, but have not received the form. We have sent out forms to everyone that has asked for them, so if you have not received them either your, or our, e-mail has gone missing! Please e-mail us again, or telephone the MR2DC office on 0844 335 0357, and we will rectify the problem.

MR2@25 UPDATE!
If you have registered to attend this event you should have had an e-mail today! If you have not please get in touch with us! If you have not registered there is still time!
EVENING MEAL:
We have provisionally booked an evening meal at the “Ship and Trades†(www.shipandtradeschatham.co.uk (http://www.shipandtradeschatham.co.uk)) for 7:30pm on Saturday 8th August 2009. This is open to all exhibitors, passengers and Trade Stall personnel. We understand, it is within walking distance of the event, and the Ramada Encore Chatham. We have attached a sample menu so that you can see what type of food they do, and the prices. We cannot guarantee that this menu will be the one available on the day. It is vital that you let us know you are intending to join us for the meal as soon as possible as we need to give the venue a reasonably accurate idea of how many people they will be catering for in advance! Please e-mail: cliveandwendy.elsdon@mr2dc.com (Please include “GM1†in the subject line.) or telephone the MR2DC office on +44 (0)844 3350357.
TIMES:
Arrival. On both days you will be able to access the MR2@25 event between 9:00am and 9:30am. Your MR2 should be on display by 10:00am, when the Dockyard opens to the General Public.
Departure. The event will close when the Dockyard Closes to the public at 6:00pm each day. Earliest departure will be shortly after this.
Overnight. If you wish, you may leave your MR2 in the event area overnight. You do so at your own risk. The MR2DC and/or the Historic Dockyard Chatham will accept no liability for any loss or damage howsoever caused to your vehicle or possessions as a result of leaving them in the Historic Dockyard overnight.
ARENA PRESENTATIONS:
We are looking for MR2’s of all marks, standard or modified, to go into the arena, and drivers (or passengers) who are willing to be interviewed about their cars or even take over the microphone themselves. (Please remember that the Historic Dockyard is a Family Attraction, so you will need to be able to prevent expletives and sexual references coming out!) Some of you have already given us a lot of information about your cars, so you might be the first to be targeted! If you would really like to have your car featured in the arena, if it is special, or if you have any special MR2 experience you would like to share with other exhibitors and the general public, please e-mail us about it, or come and see us when you first arrive at the show.
SHOW & SHINE COMPETITION:
The MR2DC will be holding a show and shine competition open to ALL exhibitors. If you wish to enter this please advise the organisers when you arrive. You must have driven your vehicle into the Historic Dockyard to be eligible for the competition, that means that if you arrive on a trailer or low loader, you can’t enter! If we see you unwrapping the car from cling-film and / or getting it off the trailer just outside the dockyard, we won’t allow you to enter either!
COMPETITIONS GENERALLY:
In all competitions, fun, serious or otherwise, the organisers decision is final!
We have some good prizes on offer including a Track Day Voucher (Javelin Track Days), a Hardtop Cover & Stand for the MK3 (Custom Covers), an insurance gift voucher (Adrian Flux), Valeting Products (Farecla) and a voucher for some parts (Kelsport). To keep you on your toes we have not allocated the prizes to a particular competition yet, so you had better find out which one you need to enter and what times it is on to try and win your preferred prize on the day!
Some competitions we have in mind:
Show & Shine Wheel Change Challange
1980’s Style Disco Dancing 1980’s Music Quiz
1980’s TV Quiz
Guess how many balloons in an MR2
Build & Customise an MR2 MK1in miniture -
(if you think that you require any special tools or materials, like sissors, glue, decorative elements etc. please bring them with you! We will provide the basic card template!)
MR2DC reserve the right to cancel, alter, or add additional competitions to this list to suit weather, available time and avaialble resources. Prizes listed above may be subject to change.
We look forward to seeing you at MR2@25, and hope that you have a great time! Spaces still avaialble - Spread the word!

Think Sam and I going along to this. Chatham boatyard is quite interesting - been before. Exploring the submarine for example and there's quite a lot of interesting museum stuff down there. Last time missed the tour of the haunted sites so want to get that this time.
Event seems well organised, with MR2 events, evening meal at pub and decent hotel at discount rate, all on the site. I see also that new Dickens world experience is within walking distance, with it's recreated streets, 4D cinema, etc. So all in all, quite a bit to do.
Be great to see some Mark 1 Club faces there. Anyone else going?

Excuses...excuses :D
Seriously I just got off the 'phone to Clive. It's gonna be a great event. His organisation is very good, emailing passes and so on. Very friendly guy.
I'm joining the Drivers Club as well now. They offer quite a lot even though their annual fee is £35, a bit more than ours. That means I'll then belong to all three Clubs :D

A couple of Mark 1 Club owners made it to this event and it was brilliant. About 50 cars each day with about 10 Mark 1's, each time. Our very own Ian Royal won a Javelin Track day for his car, worth £150 odd.
Some interesting ideas perhaps we should look at. They got Toyota to provide a big open front trailer, race car and roving mike PA system which kept everyone involved. Some imaginative competitions. I won one which found a model MR2 on the Captain's dinner table on one of the ships! Big range of stuff on sale. You could buy a cut-out-and-build Mark 1 kit for just a £1 ...other scale models, kits and usual regalia type stuff.
Quite a few marketing initiatives. Organisers networked new people in same areas and signed up new members at reduced rate on the day. One or two suppliers, inc. MR2 Only, had displays and offers ...providing raffle prizes in way of payment. I notice Drivers Club have centre pages in MR2 Only, each issue, which looks interesting.
They're a pretty well managed club with some good ideas.
