Well, Here I am...

Introduction, I'm 26, self employed and nuts.... I have had a long time love affair with the mr2. But this is the first time I have ever had a mk1.
I currently drive a fiat coupe 20vt which I use for work and long drives. I wanted something a little fun for weekends and something that was not going to break the bank

The drive home was ok, The only thing i did note was the oil temp went up when driving and went back to middle when I stopped very quickly?

Its going to have a full service when i have 5, but wont be moving till I have done that.

I also have a massive history with photos, books, launch documents, and a massive green book?

That's because it's oil pressure ;) ;) ;) I'll let you off hehe.

It's awesome that you've got a full history of the car - most MR2s (and similar 20 year old cars) are so old with so many owners it all gets lost.

phew! so its not temp then, its pressure? thank god for that!

Good job it sits halfway then and is not in the low lol.

I *think* I did ok, it was £600 with 11 months MOT and little in the way of rust, the last owner was a forum owner I believe, Ill do some digging later. Inside is mint as well. A suspension refresh is a must however. Its very sloppy compared to my coupe

Looks like you`ve got yourself a belter there! Like that black roof 8-)
Don`t think you need to worry about the oil gauge,I think it`s suppose to rise to about
2/3 under revs and then drops down to just below 1/2 way on idle,least I hope so
as mine does it too :think:
Great to get history with a car too.

car looks nice, but i know i've seen it before but can't remember who.

the fiat coupe will feel waay different to the mk1 i guess. i borrowed one for a few weeks and the torque steer, esp on boost, was mental. despite being a nice car, it reminded me why i like rwd ;)

Seem like a really good group of people over here, thats one of the reasons I still have the coupe, a great forum!

The coupe's suspension needs to be refreshed quite often. Wishbones and track rod ends. It eats them.
I just had a new set on mine with wishbones, ARB links, track rod ends and its like a different car. If the suspension has been looked after it will not pull to the left or right under boost

Coupe servicing...expensive

£450+ for clutch
£415+ for belts and cam belt
£280 for wishbones, droplinks, ect

I need to get a cam belt change on the mr2, am I looking at this kind of money? I don't mind getting hands dirty but cam belts have always been something I haven't wanted to do

cam belt from toyota is ~£30, and much less from an auto factor.
the mk1 will be much cheaper than the coupe.

see the affilates for prices for to have it done if you dont want to do it your self.

If you do any work on the car, the green book (or BGB - Big Green Book) is the one you want to use. The Haynes manual is wrong about some fairly important aspects of the car!

Looks like a decent amount of history there though - the black book is probably still worth about 20 quid.

I have to say you did really well for £600 - mine was similar money and was a little tattier with almost no history of any use :+:
