Hi Guys,
I don't have my MK1 taxed or insured at the moment as I wasn't expecting to use it this year, would myself and my dad ( Mac ) be welcome to attend in my MK3 Roadster?

Lets try and get at least 10 MK1's ( and 1 roadster )
If any guys from the North East want to convoy over to Burton with us let s know, we will be going A66 and then across to Kirby Stephen an down the M6 to the services.
This has the makings of a fantastic day, certainly will blow the cobwebs of the old girl and the MK1
I've done ths trip about 6 times and its absolutely stunning, not seen the mapping as yet but if its anything like 09's route then we are in for a treat.
Get your names down this is a brilliant drive, if any people want to make the weekend of it like some of the boys did last year then there are plenty of local hotels in the lakes

Well what an awesome day we had today, thoroughly enjoyed every 246 miles!
Great to see the mk1's glimmering in the sunshine, the weather really was perfect for a blast around the Lakes.
Thanks to Graham for organising the run again and thanks to all the members who made the effort, I understand some people drove a long way just to attend the run, fantastic support.
I will add my pictures tomorrow, hopefully hanging out the top of a roadster with the camera will be worth it!!
See you next year

Good to see everybody today - even though it was my home patch I still managed 181 miles door to door.
Despite seeing the Lake District everyday I must say the weather did us proud and the area looked fantastic.
Thanks for everybody making the effort to head to the Lakes and a big thanks to Bill for getting us all organised!
I will check the diary at work tomorrow and see if I can make it to the Peak District.

Thanks to Graham (lakelad) for organising this terrific day out! Although some areas were busy with walkers and other pedestrians, Graham knew the places where they didn't go and the roads were absolutely brilliant, as you can see from the previous photos (we had our own personal photographer (Michael) with us). Neil Houston came all the way from Derby to join us, Gary, his daughter Alice and his brother Andrew came from Buxton, and Stuart Cameron came from Preston. Michael and Mac Sheavills came over from Durham and I came from Bolton, so in all we had good cover from the Midlands and the North of the country. The route started at Burton Services on the M6 and headed off into the Lakes, driving through Windermere, Ambleside, Grasmere and up to Keswick. Then we followed a loop through Honister Pass back to Braithwaite and round the back of Thirlmere to Grasmere where we stopped for lunch. Leaving Grasmere we turned left at Ambleside into an unclassified road known as the "Struggle" to Kirkstone Pass into Patterdale and on to Pooley Bridge, driving alongside Ullswater (passengers enjoyed the scenery. At Pooley Bridge it was time to say "Goodbye" to Michael and Mac who headed off towards Durham. Instead of joining the M6 we drove down what must be one of the best but most forgotten roads in the north, the A6 - the old road over Shap with its superb twists and fast bends down to Kendal. Here we bade farewell to Graham with many thanks for an amazing day, and from here we drove to the M6 to make our ways home.

We must do this again next year, we discussed that April is probably a better time to hold the event rather than February and early March as we did in previous years, much better chance of good weather and dry roads, mid April is still before the season really kicks off so we still get the opportunity to blow the cobwebs off the Mk1.
It would be great to have another good show of support and maybe 10 - 15 MK1's like the good old days might be seen blasting around the Lakes.
Looking forward to it already, if anyone wants any full sized 10.2 meg pictures from the above then please get in touch.
Cheers

Looks like I missed out on a nice drive! Brilliant pictures too  Some of those should be made in to wallpaper sizes and promoted on the homepage.
P.S. Is this event open to the under 60s? ;)

Yes you missed a superb run, it always is, a few years back we had around 15-20 on this run, we need to get back to the glory days for 2011 and see more MK1's blasting around, support is vital :+:
I'm happy for any of my pictures to be used on the main website, some of those road shots we taken with me hanging off the back of a MK3 Roadster whilst it been thrashed about the tight, twisty roads, thanks Mac!

Sorry I`m so late, but just like to add my thanks to Graham( lakelad ) and Bill for organising a truly cracking run in the Lakes last w/end. It was an early start for me (7.30am) and didn`t get back `til 8.00pm, but the weather, the screnery, the roads ;) but most of all the company really made it worthwhile. I tagged on this trip to bed in my new rear pads, but after driving up and down those stunning passes that Graham took us on, I think I might need new pads again :!:
Great photos Micheal! :+: How you managed to take such great shots as your dad did his best to shake you out of the car along those country lanes I don`t know
I`ve added some of my own here,
Hope to see a good turnout on the Peak District run!
See you soon,
Neil, JTB.
