Yo dudes,

After weeks of looking at different cars and much research, I finally picked up my new (old!) Mk1 today. Car is an '88 all white NA UK model with 66900 miles on the clock from new. Very little work needs to be done, handbrake is first issue that needs to be tackled before I can put it through MOT and get insured. Apart from that, everything is good to go.

P.S. Many thanks go to Mark (alpha13) for all the PMs over the past couple of weeks, much appreciated.

P.P.S. Pics now uploaded below:

Whereabouts in Ireland are you from?

Just outside Dundalk, about half way between Dundalk and Carlingford. In fact, anyone going to the 1st anniversary run will be passing my house if you go home by main road.

Just did up a spreadsheet of all receipts/work done to car. Have receipts totalling nearly £3k as well as all MOT certs. Did a quick checlist of what needs to be done to the car:
New battery
Tighten or replace handbrake (will have to check it out)
Full service (appears to have been done fairly recently but will be done for piece of mind)
Drain/replace all key fluids (again, for piece of mind)
Address headlights (are popping up alternatively and jumping up and down, will post on electrical forum)
New gear knob/cover
Driver side mirror glass
Clean rust behind rear bumber
Source new interior T-bar covers
Realign drivers side windows switches (are starting to fall into door)
Sort heater unit (switch is snapped off and is stuck on full heat!)
Remove old underseal and re-paint/Waxoyl (again, for piece of mind)
Steam clean engine bay
Full respray (doesn't need it at the minute but will eventually be done)

ok paddy.. the battery you need is an 054 battery.. i did it on mine a year ago.. as for the t bar covers and gear knob i would suggest you contact rhona, she is in the affilates section at the bottom of the main page... i got tbar glass covers made from rhona and i am more than happy with them... if you want you can have a look at them at the end of the month to see what you think...i remember someone on the forum having that problem with the head lights and am nearly certain it is the headlamp control relay.... did you download the bgb??? if so that will help you very very much with the items you have to sort....

Thanks lads,

Got a new battery but its too small (not high enough) as it's not being held properly in place by the stock brackets, getting a new one sorted during the week. In fairness, the car is pretty decent and it doesn't need much to have it right but looking forward to getting working at it. I even have the woman roped in for next weekend!
