[QUOTE=andyroo104;175831]There is a v6 mk1 currently being advertised on IMOC.
Thx for the heads up
Ooh, keep us updated if you get the V6. The torque on them is just hillarious! :)
I Will do....Is the car known to anyone on this forum ? Looks like a reasonable price as well.
Yeah the white 3vz V6 with wide rear arches on imoc is mine. In two minds selling it as I have plans to wide arch the front. But to be sensible I should sell as I have too many projects. Feel free to come over and have a look. It's on a sorn though. Andy
Can you pm your number and will later for some more details. Thx
I know Andy very well and he takes great care of his cars, I would buy a car from him anytime, great guy and very honest.

As this is my first adventure into MR2s is there anyone local to Uxbridge or Reading that can take me for a spin in either a standard mk1 or a v6 to help me narrow down if standard is quick enough ? Or too under powered ?
I would but mine is currently in Hastings so not possible at the moment, sorry.

Looks soo wide on the road!!
Glad to see you changed the seats :D
It was always a tidy car though, Richard spent a fortune on it over the years. Could be a good buy.
That would be awesome. I can then compare what I prefer as my first MR2.
Will pm you
This may be a stupid question but why doesn't everyone prefer a v6 ? :-)
They did not come as standard with a V6, therefore it is non standard. It is also quite an expensive modification and the MK1 has only recently started to increase in price. If you have a problem many garages will not touch it so you need to do your own maintenance or take it to one of the MR2 specialists.
Mr Chaiman Tom has a turbo and a V6 and both of them have had problems over the years :-)
Ahhh I see. Thx corveco
I will definitely need a specialist to keep on top of the maintenance as I am not that handy. I need to weigh that up against a standard mk1.
A standard mk1 is approaching 30 years old, will any competent garage be able to maintain it ?
Or do I need some old boy who has worked on these before and knows these well ?
Any recommendations for garages in Uxbridge/ Reading way. I didn't see anything on the forum.
There's a place in north Hertfordshire, can't remember the exact name, but I'll dig it out. Worth travelling, they do bodywork, paintwork, welding, services and MOTs
Edit: F Dickerson and Sons
So long as it's a good garage, they can work on them easily. The standard engine is just a corolla engine, nothing fancy. Only struggle is getting bits sometimes, as they're slowly thinning out.
Oh and watch this video on the AW11. Some people might not get his humour, but I think he's great. Really captures what the AW11 is all about, well to me anyway Regular Car Reviews - MR2 AW11
LoL - Video is funny. Thx for bodywork specialist

You see this is the problem a V6 corolla!! The engine comes from a Camry usually and they were thin on the ground in the UK. A modified car is great if you are mechanically inclined, if not you are best to stick with standard, either the 4age or the 4agze. Although as the 4agze was never sold in this country even then you need some knowledge, parts are available for the engines but most mechanics will be scared of modified or imported cars.
A good 4age is a fine engine and it is standard in UK MK1s, try driving a standard car you will not be disappointed :-)
I agree with you Tommy
As usual 'Coveco' is talking bollocks, he's spouting 'facts' about things he knows nothing about, there is nothing on a V6 conversion that needs specialist knowledge other than identifying the parts, the whole conversion comes from the Toyota parts bin. You just need to ensure that the builder or previous owner has identified the component parts for you along with the relevant car information.
You write with confidence but you speak nonsense.
I've barely got a mechanical bone in my body but have had engine swapped mk1s for over 10 years.
The 4AGE IS a great engine but a standard mk1 can't keep up with a modern diesel, hence why a lot of people retro fit more modern engines.
Okay before this escalates into WW3 - I think there is a role for both engines but maybe I need a very knowledgable garage to look after the v6 and less knowledgable garage for the standard mk1
[emoji106] thx I think I have seen their link on the forum somewhere and they are less than an hour from me
It's all down to personal preference and what you want from a car, I love the 4age engine in my car, have a drive of one and see for yourself, would I own a V6 powered Mk1, YES I certainly would.

I guess because it's a modified car, some garages would be a bit wary because there is no workshop manual ? But I see your logic
As long as you know the parts origins then I don't see why it should be an issue. That being said if there was an engine electrical issue you may need to seek out an auto electricain but you may have to do that with a standard MK1 anyway.
Have any of you guys ever taken a car to a garage for a service? The first thing the mechanic does is note down your registration and phone his local motor factors. From that registration he orders the parts needed to repair your car, now with a V6 fitted the wrong engine parts will be delivered! A specialised garage will obviously be able to cope but they are not always local.
It does amuse me that when I try to give sensible advice I get slated by non paid up members who appear to be wearing rose tinted spectacles. I have owned a number of kit cars over the years and finding parts can be a nightmare as it is not just a case of giving the registration, I needed new rear shocks for one of them and eventually found they were from a Hillman Imp van!!!
I will say again, if you are mechanically competent then a modified car can be fun, if you are not it can be a real nightmare. Obviously the choice is yours but I believe in trying to help people make a considered choice that they will not regret.
Don't worry about it mate, I am used to receiving abuse from certain people. All I have done on this thread is try to give both sides of the argument for owning a modified car, there are good things and bad things about owning one.
One thing no one has mentioned yet is insurance, now I believe charged is in that industry but failed to mention that insuring a modified car is quite a bit more expensive than insuring a standard car, strange that :-) Insuring a standard MK1 on a classic policy is very cheap, try getting a quote on a modified car many insurers will not touch them so you have to go specialist and they know how to charge!!
